Homestead Cropping and Ecoagriculture Research Center for Sustainable Rural Development (HCERCSRD) is a research and development organization. In March 2003, some enthusiastic youths, social volunteers and environmentalists organized to establish this research center and started to work first in Gouripur, Garakandi, Bagber and Bagber Abdullah pur (Greater Bagber), of Ishwarganj Upajella, Mymensingh. Later on its working area extended to other adjacent villages e.g. Galahar, Bairati, Maizbag, Dhitpur and Durgapur of the Upajella.
Rural people of Bangladesh are very poor. With the declining price of the principal agricultural produce jute, and low productivity of other traditional commodities in respect to high price of chemical fertilizers and pesticides etc., conventional agricultural practices are falling behind to support the marginal low income group farmers and their socioeconomic condition declines alarmingly, even they cannot provide education to their children. To help this people, extensive study and support (both technical and financial) are needed to upgrade their socioeconomic condition for leading standard secured life with education and hope. Scientific and multidisciplinary use of homestead area families can get a substantial support for income to maintain their day-to-day expenses. Environment awareness regarding the effect of indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and some agricultural practices those caused detrimental effect to the lives, soil, water sources, water table, climate change and on overall environment.
Homestead Cropping and Ecoagriculture Research Center for Sustainable Rural Development (HCERCSRD) is a non-profitable and non-political research and development organization for social and environmental development. Poverty alleviation, education, conservation of nature through ecofriendly agricultural practices and diversified cropping culture are the primary aims of the organization. Moreover, all members’ participation in homestead cropping culture will ensure the women’s development and will uphold their social status. Short chain recycling of bioingredients towards ecofriendly agricultural practices instead of conventional indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, awareness for natural habit, habitat, and soil health and environment education are introduced.
